Past Curators

  • Steve Brown (R.I.P ) Sound designer Manchester, UK

Founder and Curator of SK 2007, 2011, 2013

Steve’s boundless energy and enthusiasm for all things sound and involvement with PQ, OISTAT, ASD, ABTT and USITT are the foundation for the original Sound Kitchen events and continue to inspire today.

  • Brad Ward - - sound desiger and consultant NY, NY

Curator - Calgary 2022 and Taipei 2017 To me, Sound Kitchen has become very personal. In a way helps break down borders between countries and brings the world

    together through sound.

First and foremost are the connections I've made and relationships I've built. As a result of this extended and focused time together outside of our daily routines, we get the chance to know others and learn from each other. This is true for both sound artists and people from other disciplines. Many of the people I've met through SK have become lifelong friends that goes beyond professional connections.

Second is the chance to develop and solidify many professional relationships with other SK contributors, curators and supporters.

Next, it is the opportunity to hear and see first hand what others are doing in our field. I find this extremely inspiring and helps me develop ideas of my own and helps me be more creative and collaborative.

  • Karen Lauke

Sound Kitchen to me is special because of its founder - Steve Brown. It was his baby - his passion and vision.

Bringing sound/audio creatives together from all over the globe into one space to present, celebrate and even experiment. It’s a space that allows creative conversations to take place. It encourages advanced creativity quite often with different forms of technology that perhaps designers and creatives have yet to have the opportunity to work with previously.

It’s an exciting and evolving place that encourages collaboration and experimentation.

  • Roger Alsop - composer and educator Melbourne, Australia

Description Sound Kitchen is an environment where professional designers and artists in the area of sound can work with the best technologies available. While most of these technologies and those operating them work in the area of performance, where the focus of sound design is to enhance a theatrical performance,

Sound Kitchen is a place where these designers and artists can focus on sound itself. This gives the designers and artists an opportunity to explore the ever-evolving sound technologies without having to be in service of a performance, where they can focus on the extraordinary power of sound to influence emotion and sense of place.

The discoveries that the designers and artists make in the Sound Kitchen go on to impact the experiences of audiences, taking them into worlds that cannot be expressed through visual designs, and the knowledge base of directors and choreographers to the immense power of sound in creating the experience for the audience.goes here
